EASTER CELEBRATIONS ON THURSDAY
Birkdale Bridge Club received a grant from the Redland Shire Council to replace old tables at the Redlands Multi-sports Club with special thanks to Tracey Huges councillor for Birkdale/Alex Hills Capalaba and Wellington Point.
Dennis Yardley passed away on the 3oth December, 2022 following his dear wife Olwen, who passed five months previously. He was born in Manchester in 1933 where he attended University and was the youngest entrant to pass his engineering degree. He was offered two places, one in Scotland and one in Africa. He decided to take the one in Scotland but quickly realised that it was too cold and asked to be transferred to Nigeria where he was involved in the construction of bridges.
He and Olwen then went to North Borneo where they spent many years raising their family and then came to Australia firstly in Albany, Western Australia, then was appointed Development Engineer for Redlands City Council where he was instrumental in designing future planning for the area.
He lasting legacy was to foster and promote the development of the Redlands Multi-sports Club where we are currently playing thanks to his foresight. He certainly had a very interesting life and demanding career and members of the Birkdale Bridge Club will always remember Olwen and Dennis for their devotion to our club.
Thank you so much for my beautiful flowers
